Land Rover Series Forum I,m having problems with my 2,25 petrol engined series 3 cutting out as I lift off the throttle when approaching junctions,slowing down in traffic etc.
Its got a Weber carb on it ,running the oil bath air cleaner and electronic ignition.I have adjusted the tick-over slightly to run a little quicker but that has not helped.I have also noticed today that the old girl back-fires through the carb on deceleration too. Any ideas what it might be and how I could remedy it please? front series 3 half shaft stuck I hope someone can help please - I have my front axle to pieces one half shaft slid out of the hollow stub axle easily but the other side just moves a quarter inch or so - do I use a bigger hammer or am I missing something - thanks very much
PS If it helps pretty much everything needs or will be replaced except the half shafts - all the bearings have had it etc... Yes, another R380 in an 88 thread I'm getting rolling on replacing the V8 and series gearbox in my 88" with an R380 and 300 TDi.
I've got the old engine and gearbox out, and I've been wandering around with a tape measure: It seems they won't fit (easily). These are the options:
I see the best option for least faf and best value as fitting a defender front end, but I'm not keen on doing this as I want it to look like a series! Any other options I haven't though of? Is it possible to mate a LT85 (from a 6cil spanish Santana) to a 300Tdi engine?
The 300Tdi engine is currently in a SIII 88 LHD, and connected to the standard 4cil SIII gearbox. Will the LT85 connect directly to the 300Tdi, or does it need an adapter plate? Thanks! Just picked up my new Series 3 SWB project on Saturday and I,m going to be needing to rebuild the dash area completely (with the exception of the top rail) as the previous owner has ripped the bottom rail/shelf out and removed the instrument binnacle in favour of a series 2a unit!(centre mounted)
There is no cowl around the steering column either and the wiring that would normally sit behind the clocks is hidden by a canvas bag.Its going to be a busy day or so sorting out what wire does what and goes where as none of the original switches have been used at all.(I,ll try and post pictures tomorrow when its light again) So..................whats the best options for moving forward with things?Try and go back to how it should be or go custom? If your looking to sell your old Series 2/2a & 3 for spares please let us know

Instead of your standard axle breathers fitted to your 4x4 land rover you can now replace them with these great little axle breather kits! Your kit is as shown on the image above you are also supplied with a fixing kit to attach it securely inside your engine bay and 20 cable ties to secure the pipe. The hard wearing and much more attractive brass manifold can be mounted high in the engine bay allowing the vehicle to drive through deep water whilst allowing your axles to breath, also fitted with a small vent to prevent any blockages that could prevent air flow.
