Land Rover Series Forum Hi all, I am looking for some quiter tyres for my mainly road going Series 3. I currently have some 7.50 x 16 on called 'Security' but they are fairly noisy at speed. http://tyresdirectuk.co.uk/shop/product-info.php?prodname=7.50-16-Security-ML-8PL-Tyres-&id=16567 I use my Series 3 as an everyday vehicle including a 40 mile round trip to work every day hence the quieter tyres but I want to keep the vehicle looking right as a Land Rover and not an SUV. Also a little gentle green laning now and then an occasional muddy field. I was thinking of something like Avon Rangemaster or General SAG, both available in 7.50 16 I think. Can anyone comment on the noise levels of these or recommend anything else that are quieter than Security but are still a proper 4x4 tyre. Thanks Ian Having successfully sorted out the seized clutch (previous posting) and driven my motor around for a couple of 100 miles or so I have now lost reverse gear! On trying to engage reverse it engages momentarily then crunches and disengages. It will move the truck 2 feet or so and thats it.
I picked up a second hand box and fitted it only to find that its very noisy above 30 mph and the syncros on 3 and 4th or pretty bad and no 4 wheel drive in high range. But it will engage reverse!! Here is my questions folks- Is it practical to strip a gearbox DIY? Looks simples in the Haynes book! Where can I get the parts? What should I look for in respect of the reverse gear problem? Advice, guidance, sarcasm and on line laughter and P taking accepted and appreciated:) Cheers Mike Defender hubs on series axle casings Righto, So I know this has been covered but....
In theory, apart from the flange patterns of the swivels being different, defender hubs bolt straight on, but the issue is halfshaft length.. Defender halfshafts are about 2 inches longer.. but where are these inches gained? If they are gained in the defender axle casing, then in theory series halfshafts should be okay to use, If they are gained in the swivel, then obviously we're reduced to using custom parts. I'm just trying to clear this up in my head, so if anyone can help, it would be great. Cheers! Matt Series III - Isuzu 2.2 diesel conversion views? Hi all,
Apologies if this has been asked before. We are looking to buy a Series III as a local runabout that will cope with Peak District winters. We have looked at a few, and have seen one with a 2.2 Isuzu diesel conversion, it also has the Isuzu gearbox. Does anyone on here have any experience of whether this is a decent engine in these? Or should I hang on for one with an original-spec engine? I'm by no means an expert on the oily bits..! Many thanks in advance for any insights. Rear hub seals on a ser 11. Do you fit them flush or slight recess.Hylomar or grease.
There is an article on here with Def ones where a special tool is used to drive the seal in to recess it. Differerent hub shape to series then? If your looking to sell your old Series 2/2a & 3 for spares please let us know

Instead of your standard axle breathers fitted to your 4x4 land rover you can now replace them with these great little axle breather kits! Your kit is as shown on the image above you are also supplied with a fixing kit to attach it securely inside your engine bay and 20 cable ties to secure the pipe. The hard wearing and much more attractive brass manifold can be mounted high in the engine bay allowing the vehicle to drive through deep water whilst allowing your axles to breath, also fitted with a small vent to prevent any blockages that could prevent air flow.
